Host Debi Robinson Discusses the Psychological Aspects of Osteoporosis

Do you ever wonder if it’s “all in your head”?

Often, a diagnosis of osteoporosis can send you into a challenging mental space.

It can make you cautious, less confident, and more hesitant to engage in activities you once enjoyed.

You might find yourself tiptoeing through life, avoiding challenges, and constantly worrying about your bones.

The fear of falling becomes an ever-present thought, causing you to be so much more careful with your body to the point of altering the way you move, everyday.

The reason for that is, when you get your diagnosis, all of a sudden…

The language around your health changes.

Your doctor might have used words like “severe,” “fracture risk,” or “medication.”

These words sneak in uncertainty.

They make you question your own abilities and body.

You feel as though your bones have become fragile — like a sandcastle waiting to crumble.

So, is osteoporosis all in your head?

The short answer is no; it’s an actual medical condition.

When the diagnosis weighs heavy on your mind, it starts affecting not only how you feel but also how you behave.

However, how you perceive it and your actions in response to it can significantly impact your journey.

It’s a use it or lose it proposition.

And if you don’t use it, you contribute to even more muscle and bone loss.

Here’s the good news…

You have more control than you might think, both mentally and physically.

That’s why on this week’s episode of the Stronger Bones Lifestyle, I’m talking all about the mental and emotional journey of Osteoporosis.

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store:

  • Why your thoughts, emotions, and actions all play a role in the state of your bones
  • Why not everyone needs the same treatment for osteoporosis
  • How to go from hopeless and helpless to empowered about your body
  • What stress really means for your bones — and what good stress can do
  • How to influence your internal biochemical balance and, ultimately, your bone density, quality, and strength

The truth is, osteoporosis management isn’t a one-pill-fixes-all scenario.

There’s no magic cure that will prevent falls or improve your balance, posture, and alignment.

Stay tuned for more insights and practical tips on building stronger bones in future episodes.

Together, we will rewrite the story of osteoporosis.

"Bones don’t break because you're fragile, they break because you fall." [3:32]

"Bones don’t break because you're fragile, they break because you fall." [3:32] - Debi "Fear can illicit caution. Caution gets us to move less and when you move less, you’re demanding les from your bones and muscles and that leads to muscle loss and bone loss." [14:12]

"You have to use your body and if in you’re in your head feeling fragile and breakable you’re less likely to use it." [31:02]
